Module 2:
Landscape

After completing this module, you will be able to:

  • Use different tools to observe and measure the shape of the topography near your school;
  • Describe the local topography in qualitative and quantitative terms;
  • Compare the topography of your area with that of other parts of Montana and the world;
  • Name the processes that are involved in shaping topography;
  • Explain how interactions between the lithosphere (earth), hydrosphere (water) and atmosphere are reflected in topography;
  • Make inferences about the processes that created your local topography;
  • Draw conclusions and make predictions about the influence of your local topography on the features and changes you observe in your study site.

Upon completing this module, you will have all the information and tools you need to create your own activities and lesson plans. Activities and lessons plans that you can create based on the material covered in this module are also aligned to Montana state educational standards. Unless otherwise noted, the benchmarks listed are for the end of grade 4. View a complete description of benchmarks, grade level expectations and how this module aligns with each (.pdf): “Landscape Standards.”
